Sweetens Cove Featured in The New York Times

SOUTH PITTSBURG, TN – 28 Aug, 2017 – Sweetens Cove, a half hour west of Chattanooga, was recently featured in The New York Times as the ‘Little Golf Course That Could.’  Along with being regarded by multiple architecture critics as being the best nine-hole golf course in the country, Sweetens Cove ranks #59 on Golfweek’s list of the Top 100 Modern Courses in the United States, placing it ahead of the host venues for both the 2017 U.S. Open & PGA Championship. Once you begin your round, you find course conditions that would rival many of the top courses in the country. The massive undulating greens are smooth as glass and very firm. The fairways are fast and cut tight, similar to what you’d find in the UK and the bunkers are all in excellent shape. After a few holes you realize the caliber of championship golf and think, “I’ve got to tell everyone about this…” At that point you’ve accidentally joined the Sweetens Cove cult.”

InOut Labs President Completes Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Entrepreneurship Program

CHICAGO, IL – 28 Aug, 2017 – InOut Labs , a national provider of employee drug testing services, is pleased to announce that its President and CEO, Tim Thoelecke, Jr. recently completed Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Business program, an elite entrepreneurship training program created by Babson College and conducted by the business school faculty at Harold Washington College.  He is among 24 entrepreneurs who graduated on August 18, 2017 as part of Chicago Cohort 18. Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses is a national program created to help entrepreneurs create jobs and economic opportunity by providing greater access to education, capital, and business support services. The Cohort 18 graduates spent more than 100 classroom hours and considerable time outside class, and each completed a growth plan for his or her own business.

Harold Washington College, part of the City Colleges of Chicago, has been partnering with Goldman Sachs and Babson College on the 10,000 Small Businesses program since 2010, and has helped train more than 500 business owners so far.  Cohort 18 was welcomed into the program on May 10, 2017 by Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein and Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel. At that ceremony, Blankfein announced an additional $10 million commitment to the 10,000 Small Businesses (10KSB) program, which extends the Chicago program through 2020. The funding from the Goldman Sachs Foundation builds on an initial $25 million commitment. 

Beginning in May 2017, for 15 weeks, these small business owners connected with peers and worked together through practical business education delivered through intense, interactive classroom sessions, and also spent 4 to 6 hours a week outside class.

Babson College, widely regarded as the top entrepreneurial education institution in the U.S., partnered with leadership from Goldman Sachs to produce the curriculum. Babson and Goldman Sachs work with community colleges around the country to deliver the program to owners of established businesses that are doing well, but want to do better.

He coins the term “Trapped Asset” regarding the houses we own. Houses and real estate are the least understood asset for doubling or even tripling our retirement assets and spendable income in retirement. He also adds that homes are powerful tools for safely creating significant wealth. “Where most advisors ask people to save more now to hopefully have more later, we first find and fix the hidden holes where money is leaking from their financial buckets, use it to boost wealth accumulation, and as a bonus provide more spendable income each and every month. Local Professionals Develop a Program To Help Parents and Kids Get School-Ready

Experienced educational administrators and therapist launch new workshop designed to help parents prepare children for success in school

August is here, and families are once again getting ready for a new school year. For many parents and kids, it’s business as usual as they adjust to the schedule of waking early, completing daily homework, and re-engaging in extracurricular activities.

 

For some parents and kids, however, this adjustment can be a source of anxiety. Parents are perplexed by today’s complex school environments, despite their strong and genuine desire to ensure positive experiences at school.

That’s where a new venture called Childbuilding can help.

Created by a team of experts in children’s education, Childbuilding helps parents understand and master the nuances of raising a child who can succeed in school — academically, socially, and emotionally.

Co-founder Peter Braverman is the principal at Arc Development, which provides professional services to teachers, administrators, and parents. Braverman spent 20 years as a school administrator, with a specific interest in helping parents understand the school lives of their children, and dozens of programs developed to do so.

“Those of us who know schools have a lot of knowledge that never really gets transferred to parents,” Braverman said. “When parents understand school better they understand their kids better.”

Braverman has teamed up with Denise Gershowitz, former head of Concord Hill School in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and Daniel Abzug, a licensed clinical social worker and family therapist in Silver Spring, Maryland, who specializes in child and adolescent development.

Gershowitz is well known in the Washington area; she brings a rich background of experience as a talented administrator and specialist in early childhood education. Abzug brings a comprehensive clinical perspective on the ins and outs of children and adolescents in school. All three expect that their workshop will change the experiences of parents and students throughout their school years.

The approach at Childbuilding involves all parents in active workshops that build understanding of the ways children behave in school, and the ways parents can work effectively with teachers and administrators. The team understands that both schools and parents must play careful roles in helping children reach milestones and engage in age-appropriate behaviors that benefit their education and overall well-being.

“It was our goal from the beginning that Childbuilding workshops would be a first of their kind, where a wide-ranging group of professionals come together to provide content that doesn’t merely duplicate other parenting programs. We want parents to understand school better, and how their children’s school lives affect their healthy development,” said Abzug.

“Our workshops are designed to help parents do that by normalizing the experiences of school, and making learning easier for everyone involved.”

The first series of workshops begins October 17, 2017, hosted at Concord Hill School in Chevy Chase, Maryland. The group welcomes parents of children from pre-kindergarten through grade 12, as well as teachers and administrators.

The crowdfunding campaign will officially go live on September 1, 2017.

Welsh Mtn Co., a Lancaster, Pennsylvania-based startup company that works to create handcrafted leather products built to last a lifetime, this week announced in an effort to expand their leather market into more than just the equestrian industry, they are launching a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter.com.

 

Set next to the Welsh Mountain range in Eastern Pennsylvania, Welsh Mtn Co., borne out of the infamous Amish Smucker family, will be drawing on the family’s three generations of leather making experience.

“As a third Smucker generation, I had a desire to bring our labor of love beyond the horse riding market and into more functional industries where everyday people can appreciate what we have to offer,” said Daniel Smucker, one of the three Co-Founders of Welsh Mtn Co. “After teaming up with Jon and James, this past January, our quest to start Welsh Mtn Co. was officially underway.”

After bringing together a team earlier this year, the three spent the rest of the year developing and testing products, including a rolltop backpack, messenger bag, tote, field notes journal, wallet, key fob, pipe roll, and other items. Photography and video for the new products were shot in Oregon, California, Wyoming, and Pennsylvania in preparation for the launch of the Kickstarter campaign this September 1.

In order to source high quality leather from American tanneries in volumes that contribute to the development of top-notch leather products, Welsh Mtn Co. has launched a crowdfunding campaign to garner widespread support and the necessary financial backing.

“We build with leather that is often totally custom, and in order to keep getting this leather made for us, we will need to order a high volume,” said Smucker. “We want to keep it local and hire craftsmen in our Lancaster workshop as our company expands. Spread the word on the official launch of our Kickstarter campaign, and head on over today to get a better look at the types of leather products we’re hoping to produce.”

Introducing the intelligent movement-data app “Lefft”

The app, which stores data securely, will be released on 25 August 2017 in the Play Store.

The “Lefft” productivity and lifestyle app saves users time they would normally spend each day ensuring exact documentation. Convenience is central to the app: The user’s movement-data are recorded automatically to generate a variety of useful reports. Lefft is launching soon. But for the time being, the app is only available to Android users. 

What makes Lefft special? Lefft not only lets users see their complete movement history, it also tracks “visited places” using a special algorithm. It’s a kind of route planner – but it works in reverse. The best thing is that the data remain only on the user’s smart phone. Nothing is sent to servers or companies over the internet – there is no access to the data. Lefft is also developed to be very battery-efficient. Proposed is the usage of the intelligent mode, which combines battery efficiency and accuracy of tracking results. 

The app can be used in a variety of areas. The tracking app doesn’t just track – it increases productivity. Why? Because the data can be used intelligently in three ways. 

  1. The “Which places have I visited?” report shows users the places they visited throughout the day. This is especially useful for recording times or working hours. Users receive an automatically generated travel report – which is personally configured and available on the display with a touch.
  2. The “When have I been here?” report lists the days and times when the user was in a certain area or at a special address. This feature can be used if, for example, you are researching when you were at a certain customer last – or how often you were at the gym or the store around the corner.
  3. The “Where have I been?” report provides a mapped representation of the routes covered during the selected time. It can be used, for example, to keep track of how many kilometers the user traveled in the last week or to show friends the route he or she traveled during his or her last vacation

“Lefft” was developed by a duo with the goal of launching a productivity app that makes users’ lives easier – while ensuring privacy. Lefft is monetized through a freemium subscription model. The focus in the near future will be on improving and adapting the app. The developers are looking forward to feedback so they can continue to develop the app in collaboration with users. 

Who is behind Lefft? It’s a classic combination you always see in news about start-ups: a computer scientist and a MBA. They began working together to develop productivity apps that solve problems. Michael (28), the business guy, also works full-time “on the side” in the automotive supply industry. Karl (37), the computer guy, has been developing applications for many years for German companies and others.
