The field of psychology and psychological counseling is huge, and many people choose to be very broad in their approaches to treatment.

Some, however, take a much more streamlined approach and choose to specialize. One such area is CBT-I.

“CBT-I is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia. It is a relatively new field, but the treatments have seen real success with patients,” said Dr. Sally Nazari, clinical psychologist and owner of Chrysalis Psychological Services.

Good sleep is necessary for proper health. There are a myriad of problems tied to insomnia including manic behavior, which can lead to even more serious mental health issues.

Unlike medications, CBT-I uses a combination of group and individual counseling therapies. This allows the individual to learn tools that help them go, stay and find a good night’s sleep each night, every night.

“There are medical therapies for sleep aid, but these are tightly controlled and limited because the medications can be habit forming. CBT-I is easy, done in only a few sessions and has seen as good success with patients as medication therapy,” said Nazari.

The success of the therapy should mean that there are plenty of therapists using the system, but there is a serious lack of anyone in the country who uses it.

Dr. Nazari is one of a few who are trained to use CBT-I as part of her overall practice and is looking forward to adding it to her practice.

“CBT-I was a part of my training as an extern and intern at the Maryland and New York V.A. hospitals, and now as a private practice clinician, I would love to extend this treatment to my community. I love the treatment and saw fantastic benefits with my veterans,” said Nazari.

The film “Ode to the Lotus” will start up – the shining Neo-Confucianism of Zhou Dunyi

The well-known verses “How stainless it rises from its slimy bed! How modestly it reposes on the clear pool–an emblem of purity and truth!” comes from “Ode to the Lotus” which wrote by the famous Song Dynasty Neo-Confucianism Zhou Duyi. Zhou Duyi (1017-1073), also named Lian Xi, came from Dao County in Hunan province. His Neo-Confucianism has influenced a large number of Chinese at home and abroad since Song Dynasty.

During his recent speech at the Symposium on Philosophy and Social Sciences, General Secretary Xi mentioned the famous scholar Zhou Dunyi and his political deeds in the Song Dynasty. From Zhou’s “Ode to the Lotus” to Zhou’s parental instructions and then to Premier Zhou Enlai’s noble character, all these came down on one continuous line. In the verse of “Ode to the Lotus”, Zhou compared the water-lily to “incorruption”. “How stainless it rises from its slimy bed! How modestly it reposes on the clear pool–an emblem of purity and truth!” General Secretary Xi concluded the verses as officials’ morality, which carried forward the incorruptible culture from an independent form, and influenced generation after generation of government officials.

May 30, 2017 is the one thousand anniversary of the birth of Zhou Dunyi. “Ode to the Lotus”, produced by Light and Shadow Magic Science Co,Ltd., will start up in Dao County in Hunan province on January 17,2017 which is the hometown of Zhou Dunyi.

The film “Ode to the Lotus” is centered on the imparting education of traditional Chinese culture. She has two Executive Producer credits to her name: Citizen Soldier, an award-winning immersive documentary highlighting the unprecedented role the National Guard has played in the post-9/11 wars (August 2016), and Danger Close, a film that addresses the central role of Special Ops in those wars (to be released this spring). She is an adjunct Senior Fellow of the Military, Veterans, and Society Program at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS) and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR).

Anderson serves on the Board of Advisors of Team Rubicon Global and the Boards of both the Bentonville and San Diego International Film Festivals. She is also a member of the Board of Trustees at her alma mater, Hendrix College. She is a graduate of both Harvard and Columbia Universities.
